Why does concrete crack or settle in Florida?
Mostly because of what's under it. Tampa Bay soil is sandy, and heavy summer rain can wash out or soften a base that wasn't prepared right, so the slab settles unevenly and cracks. Concrete here has to be built for it: a compacted base, reinforcement, a slope that sends water away, and control joints cut at the right spacing so that any cracking happens at the joints instead of across the middle of the slab.
Can you pour concrete in the Florida heat and rain?
Yes, with the right planning. Concrete sets faster in high heat, so we schedule pours for the cooler part of the day, keep an eye on the afternoon storm forecast, and give the new slab time to cure before anyone drives or builds on it.
